Apologies for another post that isn't even slightly on-topic. I've a new pet project for this year and needed somewhere to document it, and I'm sure as hell not running a second Wordpress install, so here it is.
Every day, for the whole of 2010, I will watch a film I've not seen before.
Not very taxing, or original, or worthwhile. But amusing (at least to me), and a good way of burning off the pile of movies I've never watched. More importantly, an excuse to get around to the worryingly large number of culturally-significant films I've missed. I decided to do it simply because it occurred to me that since new year's day, I've been watching a film a day, and they were all new to me – the last three days I watched the first three Die Hard films, for example, having somehow been alive nearly 26 years and not managing to see a single one. So I decided to keep it up.
I won't be blogging it, nor will I even be mentioning it again on this site. The most you'll hear about this from now on is a daily tweet about what I've watched. I'll be using the hashtag #365films, so you can keep an eye on them with that. I'll also be writing them down on paper for my own purposes, and maybe I'll type the list up on December 31st. Assuming I don't get bored, that is.
Some rules I've devised for this: the films have to be ones I've not seen from start to finish, ever. There are quite a few films I've caught the end of that will go on the list. "Days" refers not to the time between one midnight and another, but to my own personal day, which typically runs from 3pm to 5am GMT. If I miss a day, I'm allowed to make it up on the next, and I'll never go longer than three days without a film (because catching up with three films in a day is about as much as I can reasonably handle). I will watch 365 different films by December 31st 2010. I will also accept recommendations – feel free to use any of the methods on the Contact page here to give me some ideas. I already have a huge list which should last me until February, but there's no fixed order.
That's about it. Send me recommendations and keep an eye on my Twitter to see what I'm watching. And a belated happy new year to you.
A fantastic idea. I couldn't do this myself.
Frankly I'll be amazed if I manage it, but it's worth a punt.
